• I understand that hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal and may not wish to be played with until the evening hours and that it is dangerous to the hedgehog's health to try and keep it awake during the daytime hours.


• I understand that a hedgehog has its own personality and may not enjoy being handled or played with at all times.


• I understand that their quills are sharp and I will get poked on a regular basis.


• I understand that hedgehogs have very sharp teeth, and I may get bitten as anything with teeth can and may bite. (Although this is relatively uncommon)


• I understand that a hedgehog needs to kept warm (ideal is 75F-80F), and will use an appropriate heat source in order to provide the extra warmth my pet requires.


• I understand that I may be defecated and urinated on by my hedgehog; especially when it is a baby.


• I understand that my hedgehog will need out of cage time to run around and it is up to me to provide a safe environment for it to do so.


• I understand that a hedgehog is by nature a solitary creature and may never actively seek me out for attention.


• I understand that hedgehogs need a high quality varied diet and I am willing to provide this no matter the cost.


• I understand that my hedgehog will need its cage and food/water bowls cleaned at least once a week.


• I understand that hedgehogs have exercise needs and I will provide a proper wheel and a spacious cage for him/her.


• I understand that all animals get sick, injured, or develop problems that will need to be treated by a knowledgeable veterinarian and I will have my hedgehog treated no matter the cost.


• I understand that if I cannot afford to care for my hedgehog that the best thing for the hedgehog will be to return it to Hedgehog Grove for proper care and/or medical attention and help in re-homing him/her.


• I understand that a hedgehog is not considered the best pet for a child under the age of 10, but I as an adult will take responsibility for the care and needs of the hedgehog.


• I understand that the hedgehog I am purchasing is not to be bred under any circumstance and that if I want a hedgehog for breeding purposes I will ask Hedgehog Grove for a breeder contract.


• I understand that purchasing a hedgehog (or any pet) is not to be done lightly and that it is up to me to do as much research as possible before bringing a hedgehog into my home.

We make sure all babies are handled each and every day once they are old enough to make sure they are very socialized and hand tamed prior to going to their new forever homes.

Each baby goes home with a IHR Number (when it is sent from IHR), Health Guarantee/Warranty and a small bag of our premix food plus 24/7 support.

New parents are recommended to purchase our special pre mixed hedgehog diet bags that the hedgehogs are weaned onto. Additional bags can be purchased from us at any time.
This ensures that the hedgehogs that come from us here at Hedgehog Grove will still thrive and be fed the correct types of kibble that don't contain corn, byproducts and other harmful ingredients. Our Hedgehog Diet Mix is very well priced in line with that of pet stores if not cheaper.

We do prefer our "new" parents to purchase either a CSW or a CSWB for their new baby, it is the only wheel we recommend. We offer the CSW or the CSBW at a reduced cost when been purchased with our babies. When purchased with your baby the CSW is $30 and the CSBW is $25.

MEET & GREET/VISITATIONS

We are a family run breeder as our hedgehogs are first our loving pets before anything else so therefore we are home based. You are welcome to come and meet some of our hedgehogs but wouldn't be allowed into the hedgehog room*.

Since we are a small breeder (with young children and other responsibilities) and we operate out of our home we ask that you contact us to set up a time that you can come by. WE ARE NOT A PET STORE. We do require a $15 visitation fee per family (please do not bring friends). The $15 comes off the price of a hedgehog if you choose to go forward with putting your name to the waiting list and placing a deposit (after your application is approved). If you are unable to make your appointed time please call to notify us and we can set up a new time.

*Please Note: We do not set up visits into our hedgehog room. Outside visitors are not allowed into the hedgehog room since we have moms who are in breeding, pregnant or with young babies. External people going in and out of the hedgehog room causes the females stress but that also puts the babies at risk of abandonment or death which we do not want happening since there is a very high mortality rate with young babies as it is without undue stress affecting their mothers. Along with that people can bring in on their clothing ringworm, fleas and communicable illnesses from themselves and other pets which is very serious and an avoidable problem to our pets.

Please understand that in addition to breeding hedgehogs, we also have other pets. They may or may not be inside our home at the time of your visit. If you are afraid of large dogs or have allergies to dogs or other small animals, please let us know in advance so we may try to accommodate this situation. Please understand that we cannot bring our babies outside to you for viewing, especially during the winter months.

HEALTH

Babies born here at Hedgehog Grove are warranted for 6 months from date of birth against any kind of congenital problems (a descriptive term for a disease or condition that is present at birth. A congenital disease can be either hereditary or acquired) but does not include any forms of cancer, tumors or reproductive system problems. If for some reason a baby has been lost due to a hereditary problem (does not include pneumonia, or other form of cold, or hibernation and a proof of necropsy from a certified veterinarian approved by us stating the problem was present from birth must be provided) we will replace it with the next available baby however no refund will be given.

We also have a lifetime guarantee against Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS). If your baby should develop WHS, they will be replaced at no charge with a new baby (except shipping/delivery costs). We will require a copy of a necropsy report showing positive WHS from a licensed veterinarian of our choosing who has experience with WHS (we can provided the contact for one), prior to replacing the baby.

Since it is in our best interests to confirm WHS in any of our lines to better help eradicate WHS from the hedgehog species, we offer to help pay towards the cost of the necropsy only. Since it is very time sensitive once a hedgehog passes to when a necropsy can be preformed it is very important you contact us at the first possible sign of WHS so we can go through other possible treatable illnesses (you will be responsible for the costs of treatments and ruling out all other possibilities*) and if the condition does not get corrected, set a plan up so that once the hedgehog is unable to eat/drink for themselves, then the hedgehog must be returned to us so we can take them to our WHS Vet to be euthanized and a WHS necropsy preformed before the time sensitivity window closes.

*If you're unwilling or financially unable the explore other possible causes for symptoms much like WHS and treat for them, then you can surrender your hedgehog to us and we will take on all veterinary care for the hedgehog until we feel we have done everything possible to cure the symptoms. If symptoms are still present we will then humanely euthanize the hedgehog and send in for a necropsy. If we are able to cure the symptoms present we will then adopt the hedgehog out to a new home for a fee to help cover back the expenses of all the veterinary treatments.

Our guarantees do not cover any vet bills that may have accumulated from treating your hedgehog nor does it cover the loss due to neglect, accidents, abuse or any treatable illness. Hedgehog Grove does not assume any responsibility or liability for any damage or injuries to your hedgehog while using products purchased from us. It is your responsibility to ensure your hedgehog′s safety at all times.

We strongly encourage you to take your hedgehog in to the vet for a wellness checkup within 21 days of bringing him/her home. This will allow the vet to get familiar with your new pet and discover any potential health issues right away. We recommend half yearly wellness checks (or more often if problems arise).

REFUND/EXCHANGE POLICY

If you find that the hedgehog is not working out for you, we will offer to exchange the hedgehog. All exchanges must be made within 30 days. Only healthy hedgehogs that are returned to us are able to have access to this exchange policy.

• Returned within 30 days of the date of purchase = 25% of the sale price.


• Returned after 30 days of the date of purchase = no refund is given but the hedgehog must be returned to Hedgehog Grove.

*This policy does not apply to a hedgehog returned to us which is not healthy or is injured for reasons that were the buyer's fault or due to negligence. This includes but is not limited to, poor diet, drafty/cold living conditions, untreated or communicable illnesses, harm caused by the owner, owner's children/guests, or owner's other pets!

Also, hedgehogs do not do well around cigarette or other smoke. If you or someone else smokes in the environment where the hedgehog will be kept, we will not exchange the hedgehog because it is likely that another hedgehog would not do well there either. Hedgehogs are extremely sensitive to smells.

OWNERSHIP

Hedgehog Grove retains a partial ownership of all babies sold here at Hedgehog Grove. What this means is when you purchase a hedgehog from Hedgehog Grove it is fully your pet, you are responsible for all care costs including housing, feeding, veterinary care, etc. However, if at any time you decide a hedgehog is not the right pet for you or circumstances change the hedgehog must either be returned to Hedgehog Grove at buyers expense/time or Hedgehog Grove be contacted so they can help to re-home the hedgehog to another knowledgeable owner. You may not sell or give away your hedgehog without contacting Hedgehog Grove first (this helps in transferring the guarantee/warranty and to ensure the hedgehog is going to a new great home who is familiar with Hedgehogs and their care requirements) While this may sound harsh we do this to ensure that the hedgehog we helped to create is always properly cared for and loved. DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS

In order to be put onto our waiting list for a baby hedgehog and for a great choice of baby hedgehog's to choose from, we must receive a deposit of $50 once your application has been approved. This is a non refundable deposit so if you change your mind, the deposit will not be refunded. The deposit will be deducted from the balance you owe after selecting your baby. Your deposit can be moved to a different hedgehog or a different litter though we will only allow you to switch your deposit to a different litter once. Please only ask to be added to our waiting list for a hedgehog if you are sure that it is the right choice for you.

Once you have been approved and are on our waiting list, we will email you when it is time to choose your new baby. When the babies are 3-4weeks old we will start emailing our waiting list and they have 48hrs to reply with their choice of baby. After 48hrs we move onto the next person. Once you have chosen your new little darling we require that you pay for your baby in full to hold your baby until they are ready to be picked up at 7-8 weeks old. We accept Interac or PayPal for this convenience, a 5% fee is required to be added to all PayPal payments! If you cannot pick up your hedgehog at the Ready to Leave Date, we are willing to hold on to it for the same fee we charge for boarding of hedgehogs with us which is $10.50 a day or $50.00 a week.

For your convenience we accept PayPal (5% fee applies) or Interac for your deposit and payment on your selected hedgehog. Cash only is accepted at pickup for the wheel, food, igloo and any other accessories bought through us unless you're paying in full through PayPal or Interac at the same time as paying for your baby hedgehog.

PRICES

Our prices start at $185 and vary by sex, color, and temperament. Some other rare colors or markings are priced higher from $250 and up. We do not guarantee prices until babies are 8 weeks old and we reserve the right to adjust the price (up or down) once the color/pattern/markings are evident.

COLORS

We are able to produce standard Dark Greys to Chocolates and the lighter variety from Browns to Pale Apricots and other rarer colors & dilutes. We also can produce the harder to breed for types such as Snowflakes/Whites, Pintos (High, Uber, Reverse), Split Faces, White Faces, Patch Eyes and Leucistic (completely pinto with either black, dark ruby red, ruby red, hazel or green eyes) hedgehogs.

We assess the attributes of the hedgehog, it's color/pattern/markings and see where they fall into on our color charts. We cannot guarantee the color of any hedgehog as they can get lighter or darker as they get older and their true color cannot be determined until 6 months of age as hedgehog will not develop its true color until then (after quilling- when the hedgehog loses its baby quills and new adult quills fill in).

PICKUP & SHIPPING

We offer pickup in Brampton, ON at our home. Pickup location will be provided once we have set an appointment time the week before the hedgehog is ready to go home. We do offer a delivery service but only upon advance request. Delivery Fees are based on round trip km's − .52$ a km and $10/hour. This delivery fee does also apply for meeting you at a pre−arranged pick up/drop off location.

We currently only offer shipping on a strict basis and only during the warmer Canadian months. It is stressful on a young hedgehog to fly and this can cause sickness/death, change in temperament and behavior. When you want your hedgehog shipped to you, you fully understand all this and Hedgehog Grove is not liable for any changes or sickness/death due to flying. Shipping costs vary between $200 − $250.
